Joshua: 21 months

Words to describe Josh: passionate, loveable, intense, funny, talkative, persistent, joyful, strong-willed, quirky.

He's restless and discontent while playing inside; he's independent and happy while playing outside.

He loves sand, tractors, going on walks, fruit snacks, and bossing around Rosey.

He's shy, yet will walk into strange places and act like he owns the place--just don't make eye contact with him. He'll wave at and talk to any stranger, but refuses to stay in the nursery. He just likes Ben or I to be close by.

He's having some odd sensory things going on: won't let me cut his hair, clip his toenails, and will only wear his crocs with socks (although we've had a major breakthrough with this the past two days and he'll now be barefoot!)

He talks constantly and will copy any word you say. His little voice is adorable and we all love listening to how he says different words! "Wub you mama," is my favorite. "Miss you," is Ben's.

He weighs 23 pounds.

He's stubborn! Yesterday was his six month check-up at the cleft palate clinic and it was kind of disastrous. He wouldn't open his mouth for the doctor, so it had be pried open with the wooden stick, thus gagging him. He cried each time the nurse shut the door to the room (we had 3 different appointments). He wouldn't participate during the hearing test, and just stared at the helper like he had three eyes. Myself and the nurse had to pin him down on a table to get the wax cleaned out of his ear tubes. He fought us so hard that the doctor accidentally scratched his ear drum, making him bleed and scream harder. It was brutal! Somehow I thought that this appointment would be easier because he's older and can understand so much more; boy was I wrong! It was harder because he's so darn willful!

He very rarely wakes up at night, and if he does, you know something is wrong. However, if he's in a pack n' play, or at someone else's house, he's usually awake for 2-3 hours at night. It's brutal.

My favorite recent Josh story: we were out front of our house watching the big boys ride their new bikes. We were letting Josh play in the car (pretend to drive, etc.--one of his favorite pastimes). I noticed we hadn't heard any noises from him in a while, so I checked. I found him with a pack of gum in hand, seven empty gum wrappers on the seat beside him, two half eaten pieces on his lap, and a huge wad in his mouth. He was ear-to-ear grinning and so happy that he finally got to sample gum (he asks for it every time the boys get it, but we obviously don't give it to him). Oh that boy! So precocious!

This picture is quintessential Josh: sunshine eyes, bucktooth grin
