The past two weeks of Covid craziness thankfully haven't been as turbulent as the first two. We continue to have good and bad days; some days the weight of the virus and the havoc it is wreaking on our world is a lot to handle. Other days, it is easier to focus on the good: that our family is healthy, that we are safe, and that we genuinely enjoy each other's company (good thing, because we are seeing a lot of one another these days!).
Ben finished week two of working from home. On Friday night of the first week, he drove to Office Max and bought himself a much needed comfortable office chair. He does his meetings virtually from our bedroom now and we're thankful that our apartment owner (per our request) graciously had our internet updated, so now we can get fast internet in all rooms in our house. It's nice that Ben doesn't have the commute to and from the office any longer and that he can get out for a walk during the day. We enjoy seeing his face during the day and having lunch together. However, I know that he'd much rather be in the office having face-to-face meetings with his colleagues. He will be working at home at least through the end of April.

Ben's boss asked her team to submit pictures of their new work environment; Ben thought he was so funny staging this photo. Yes, all the Portland people hate him.

The kids were so proud of ambushing him (without thinking through the implications of their cannonballing him while a computer was in front of him)
We survived two more weeks of virtual school for the boys and now, thankfully, have a two week break for Semana Santa. The boys were real troopers about their online classes and we settled into somewhat of a routine. I even have to admit that online sports practices weren't as bad as I thought they'd be and were a great chance for the boys to get some additional daily exercise. Personally, I wish that the school provided a way for the boys to be more independent with their school work, and that it involved less screen time, but I know that everyone is just doing the best that they can. They will also be online at least through the end of April.

I will always remember the Covid crisis as the time that Josh really learned the value of reading. What a blessing! He's currently totally into reading the Peanuts comics and it's so sweet.
We were supposed to leave Thursday, April 2, for our epic Spain trip. That was a difficult day. I know that everyone in the world is dealing with disappointment of cancelled things, and that many people are going through much worse situations than ours, but we were still sad. We are grieving the loss of adventures and things to look forward to and plan.

On a positive note, there are have been days warm enough to swim; what a blessing! Another confirmation of why we decided to stay in Mexico and ride out the pandemic.
On a day that was a little too chilly for the pool, we made water balloons and the kids had a blast on the trampoline with them.
This is how Josh starts out each morning as he moseys to the couch. I love it.
The boys have spent endless hours with their stuffed animals; they make paper clothes and shoes for them, split them into teams for basketball or soccer, and truly love played with them.
I have found solace in the kitchen, trying many new recipes. The one above was Moroccan sheet pan chicken. It was amazing!
We also tried a new fruit: Cherimoya, also know as a custard apple. It was weird.
My dear friend Amanda and I got out for a Saturday morning walk. Conversations with her have been a saving grace.

It was a perfect morning for views on our walk!

Ben and the boys played Risk, and Josh won...Ben's first defeat against the kids.
Everyone had a stuffed animal who "played" the game for them.
Thank the Lord we found a hike in the mountains behind our house that isn't closed. It felt so great to be in the woods!
We can't wait to go again when it's not socked in with fog...the view will be excellent.
I have also found great joy in walking the neighborhood and taking pictures of the flowers with my good camera. There is beauty amidst the chaos!
