What if I told you that you could cram in your kids' first day of school and soccer on the same week as your babies' first birthday and a major surgery--would you do it? Well, apparently I would. Or maybe, when OHSU calls you in March to schedule a surgery that needs to be right around your child's first birthday, you're not thinking about the first day of school. Least to say, we've had some crazy, emotional weeks!
On Tuesday, Seth and Sam had their first day of classical conversations, the homeschool group we are participating in. We went into the day with Seth saying, "I'm excited for school, but not the classroom," (meaning he was excited for the homeschool part of it), to leaving CC with him exclaiming, "That was the BEST day ever. I loved it!" It made my heart so happy! The boys did awesome and are soaking in their memorization work like sponges. This morning was the first day I started the math curriculum at home, and that also went well. I'm still a little unsure of what this whole "homeschool" thing will look like for our family, but I'm sure we'll settle into a good routine and niche. And I know I'm so grateful that we made the choice to have them at home for at least one more year!
Approaching the first day of school, the boy also knew their first soccer practice was the next day. There were many conversations about how excited they were about soccer, especially from Sammy. We got them cleats and shin guards (such suckers as parents) and they've been practicing for weeks. I missed their first night of soccer practice, which landed on Josh's surgery day, but managed to snap a couple pictures tonight at their second practice. Watching the two of them at practice is hilarious. They celebrate making it across the field in "sharks and minnows" like it's a championship each time. They are constantly chewing their fingernails and tying their shoes. They are actually talking to other kids. They are competitive, but not terribly aggressive. Oh, and Seth has a weird OCD tendency of touching the grass with his hand at various moments. It's a hoot! They are so excited for their first game on Saturday!
So without further ado, here's the pictures of their firsts:
Seth is on the left in each set of individual pictures.(How do you like our green front door? Isn't it awful?)
These two boys--they are special. I've been so blessed to be their mom and watch them grow! The pictures below make me smile, because each of those particular times I came out to find them just chatting and hanging out with one another...and they stayed that way for over an hour each time!
