With Josh's surgery looming, and the help that family was giving for appointments and the actual surgery, we didn't really have room in the schedule for a birthday party for Joshy. We still wanted to have a special day for him, though, so we headed to the beach. What could be better for a kid that LOVES sand and water? It was a very fun day and we all had a blast watching Josh enjoy the beach for the first time in his life. Be ready for picture overload!
Opening his first gift from Uncle Tom and Aunt Julie
Here are some of Josh's first touches of sand:
While Ben and I were enjoying watching Josh, we turned our backs on our oldest two...and then turned around to find them at the top of this LARGE rock. "Daddy, look how high we climbed." Gulp. Even Ben thought it was too high to be climbing without supervision (which means it was steep and high) and quickly rushed to help them get down without an ER trip.
Off to the water!
Josh was not at all afraid of the water; in fact, he wasted no time getting soaked. He had fun...and then realized how COLD he was. Poor boy.
But he was back bear crawling in no time.
First attempt at a picture of my three boys...okay...
Of course you can throw sand: it's your birthday!
Seth on top, Sam on bottom: BEST big brothers EVER.
Once he started shivering, we decided it was time for a break from the water. I love this tender picture of Josh and Ben.
Now, discovering the sand:
Sweet, sweet, profile
The afternoon warmed up enough for shirts off!
And he's back to the water!
Child picture take two...these ones are...antsy? funny? cute?
Sweet, sweet one year old Joshua:
And the best for last:
We finished the evening with a few more gifts:
One blessed mama!

Love these boys so much!
