Today all I have to say for myself is 24 lbs of peaches, 4 lbs of blueberries, some produce, 3 very dirty kids in nothin’ but their underwear, 2 showers for myself, a very dirty kitchen (which thankfully means that I have fed my kids) and a very messy house.
Oh, and a teething baby. Thus, I don’t have much to say for myself. Thus, the dirty house that includes a huge pile of paper strewn all over the floor because that’s what made Josh happy for a mere 5 minutes of peace. But you know what? It’s been a good day and I’m so grateful.
Even more so now that I’ve been reminded how blessed I am to stay home with the boys. I just got off the phone with a customer service rep (oh ya, I took care of that bill too), who heard Josh in the background and started talking about her two kids that are about the same age as mine. She sees them for 5 minutes each night before they have to go to bed. It broke my heart. I wish all mommy’s could stay home with their babies to hold them all day while they are teething, and getting dirty, and making messes. I’m so privileged.
And while I’m counting my blessings, let me be openingly thankful for my husband, who is going to come home to this mess, and his wife in her swimsuit top and gym shorts and not ask me why it looks like a bomb hit the kitchen. And he won’t ask me what I did all day, but he will listen to me recount silly little details. He is such a great man and a fabulous provider.
So what does this all have to do with the title of summertime? Well, maybe just the fact that I was able to get up this morning and decide that we were going to a u-pick place despite a teething baby and 90 degree weather. And the fact that I didn’t have to give my extremely dirty kids a bath because they went and jumped in the pool instead. And more than anything, it’s because I have a bunch of really cute summertime pictures that don’t have much in common except the joys of sun.
All the other words were just bonus material. Or blessings that needed to be remembered and recounted.
This is what Josh does if his brothers are outside without him. So sad.
How awesome are those two pictures? Oh the joy. (Sammy)
Josh likes to rotate between water and dirt. Yes that makes a very dirty, muddy boy. He also bear crawls because our (almost) dead grass is too prickly for him!
And this is Josh’s sentiments about leaving the mud and water:
Another neccesity of summer: all things MUST be done in one’s underwear (if you’re ages 5 and below)
