Potty Trained!

Well, I never thought I'd say it, but Josh is officially potty trained!

He was all at once my hardest and easiest child to train.

Week one of potty training was rough. So rough. The kid screamed, cried and wailed on the potty. He held it for hours and hours on end...like 8-10 hours. By day four I was ready to quit, and googling "How long can your child hold his pee before it hurts his body." At that point, Josh didn't like going in a diaper anymore, so he was holding it and then screaming because his stomach hurt from holding it for so long. Then he and I would head to the potty and I would console him as he literally sat crossing his legs, trying to keep the pee in. It was so dramatic. Then would finally relent, tears pouring down him face, go in the potty and then calmly collect his potty treat.
These pictures below were the norm all day long.
Notice the potty training kit behind Josh: stickers, chocolate chips, piglet, cell phone, books
This picture below is the best. Hilarious! Oh the drama!

Day seven, after holding it most the day, I halfheartedly told Josh to sit on the potty and he did so without much fuss. Then a couple minutes later, he told me, "I think I'm doing it!" Sure enough, success. Later that night, another success. And from then on, he's been going like a champ. There have been very few accidents. In fact, I'm barely reminding him to go; he tells me when he needs to go and takes care of business. I've even convinced him to get rid of the little potty and go on a normal toilet. It's amazing! I cannot even express how wonderful it was to put the old, nasty diaper pail on the curb on garbage day, never to be seen again!
So, while the first week was horrible, it now seems a distant memory. Josh is fully in underwear and I'm not stressed about constant accidents. He looks so darn adorable in his undies. Week one was horrible, week two was wonderful.

I don't know why we expected potty training to go any different with Josh. He likes to do things on his own terms.
