Seth and Sam's birthday this year was a day in which it was SO apparent how far we have came in this living in Mexico thing. Last year we had very few gifts for them (because we didn't know where to shop), made a dinner at home (because we didn't know what restaurants to visit), and were extremely lonely...literally we had no friends for them to invite over for a party. In contrast, this year, we planned for weeks, knowing what to buy and where, knowing exactly what special food we wanted to order, and most importantly: we had friends to invite over! So, for us, Seth and Sam's birthday was not only a day to celebrate our sweet twin boys turning 9, it was also a day of thanking the Lord for how far we have come in the past year!

Birthday boys
Mexico takes their balloons very seriously; it was fun to let their boys pick out their own gigantic birthday balloons.
Seth and Sam requested rum cake for their birthday dessert. My friend Katie had made this amazing rum cake for us a couple months back and the boys wanted it from that moment on for their birthday. This cake may become a staple for birthdays around here.
Their actual birthday was on Saturday, so we started the day together opening gifts. Josh helped select these lego sets for the boys.
We also had gifts from home that Ben had brought back with him from a business trip. This game is from Titi and Papa and is so fun! Something that the whole family can do together!
We bought the boys roller blades, but I did not want to wrap two big boxes, so we sent the boys on a treasure hunt around the apartment complex to find them hidden in our closet.
They had to dance in the bathroom for one of their clues.
Finally found the roller blades. They were super excited.

Nice shot Josh!
A perfect day to get wet and stay wet any way possible.
I was so excited about these candles. When lit, they started playing music, opened up to reveal a soccer ball, had a sparkler in the middle and 8 candles around (totaling 9 candles); however, as in all things of Mexico, they didn't quite turn out as planned. Because of the breeze, they wouldn't stay lit long enough to blow them out and the music played none-stop for the rest of the night.

They still were quite cool and didn't ruin the night. It was a great birthday!

Seth and Sam had their first school birthday! They requested brownies for their class treat. Two more things to love about Mexico: they let you bring homemade treats to school still, and they have fantastic candles!

I can't believe that we've been parents for NINE years!
The afternoon of their birthday, we had a swimming party with two families: the Leonards and the Lesters. It was a perfect 90+ degree day for a pool party!
Fun with friends!
We bought super soakers for all the kids.
We also had whole tub of water balloons.
Max, Josh, Seth, Sam, Jeremiah, Oscar, and Kyler (Not pictured: Mickie, who was terribly outnumbered with all those boys!)Nice shot Josh!
In the end, the boys all just threw them at Ben.
So much fun!
Poor Mickie, the boys are ganged up and plastered her with balloons. She wasn't a fan.
