Silver Creek Falls

I’ve been determined all summer to do a day trip to Silver Creek Falls with the kids. Ben and I went there a lot when we were dating, but haven’t gone back since marriage. Seven years is a long time to stay away from such a cool place! We packed a picnic lunch and took the beautiful drive through back roads from Woodburn, through Mt. Angel, Silverton and on to the falls.

The hike was simple and easy with the boys. It was pretty special to be able to walk behind the falls and explore in caves.

IMG_2118 The water was shallow enough for the boys to really have fun it in. They could even walk all the way across with daddy!IMG_2124 IMG_2109 Seth was so excited to splash around that he got running too fast and took two big spills, scratching up his knees pretty good. And like any good mom I took a picture of him crying to his daddy. In fact, this picture was a bit of a foreshadow for how our trip would end—with both boys screaming because we had to leave the cool play structure. Apparently they were exhausted from all the fun and fell asleep quickly in the car on the drive to Katie and Nick’s for a fun family dinner. (Which was a blast, but I was all picture out from the morning, so didn’t take any pictures of the five cousins playing together, my bad.)
